The Cowboy Behind The Mission

With a childlike spirit, a contagious smile, and a toughness born from the West, Trenten lived the life he loved-raising a family, riding great horses, and showing up for the sport that shaped him.

Just two weeks after welcoming his son Noah into the world, a bareback accident led to injuries he couldn’t overcome. After weeks in the hospital and countless prayers, Trenten passed away on August 30, 2023.

His friends and fellow cowboys were determined that Maria and Noah would never walk alone and that Trenten’s legacy of grit, kindness, and generosity would carry on.

The Trenten Montero Foundation was born from that love-built to stand beside injured contestants and families facing the unthinkable, just like Trenten’s did.

Today we honor a cowboy who lived full, loved deep, and left a legacy far bigger than the arena.

The Trenten Montero Foundation was created when fellow professional rodeo cowboys came together to find financial support for Trenten’s family and realized the loss could create a legacy to support other cowboys and their families that face death or catastrophic career ending injury.

Mission

To honor the life and legacy of Trenten Montero by standing beside professional rodeo athletes and their families when tragedy strikes - offering financial, emotional, and community support to those affected by death or catastrophic career ending injury while competing in professional rodeo events inside the arena.

A rodeo community, where no cowboy or cowgirl faces devastation alone. Through connection, storytelling, and fundraising, the foundation ensures that when the unthinkable happens in the arena, help and hope are already there, carrying forward Trenten’s legacy of tenacious heart, kindness, and generosity.

Vision

Trenten Montero was more than a cowboy - he was a light in and out of the arena. His laughter, heart, and humility left an impression on everyone he met.

After his passing, his wife Maria said:

That belief fuels every effort we make - to carry Trenten’s name forward through action, compassion, and support that makes a real difference in the rodeo family.
